My name is Ashley Mencis, and I began my journey at Yancey House as the Administrator about two months ago. I am thrilled to be here with my new team. I truly have a passion for senior care. I began my career in healthcare in 2013. I was inspired to work in this field because it is very important to me to feel that I have made a difference to others. I have always enjoyed talking with the residents and learning about their families and their lives. I have done many different roles within assisted living communities. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant, a Certified Medication Aide, and a Licensed Administrator. I also have a degree in Business Administration & Data Analysis. My hobbies include going to dance and gymnastics with my 10-year-old daughter and spending time with my puppies; I have 2 that I have adopted and 1 that I am currently fostering, so I definitely stay busy. I love our community and the special family atmosphere that we have created together. I am so blessed to be on this journey, and I truly look forward to making a difference at Yancey House.

My name is Mindy McKinney, and I have worked for ALG Senior for 10 years. I began my career in healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide. I transitioned into my role as Business Office Coordinator in February 2026. I was inspired to work in senior care because I grew up with my mother working in nursing facilities. I most enjoy talking with the residents and hearing all of their stories. My favorite thing about our community is that we have all become like family to one another.

My name is JoAnn Shepherd, and I have worked for ALG Senior for 10 years. I began my career with this company as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide. I have been in my role as Resident Care Coordinator for 5 years. Making a difference to others is what truly inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. What I enjoy most about my job is interacting with our residents. My favorite part of working in this community is being in my hometown. I know many of the residents and their families because I have lived in Burnsville my entire life. I love being family to some of our residents who may not have family. My favorite quote would be “Never ask someone to do something that you would not do yourself.”

My name is Chasity Buchanan, and I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in healthcare for 19 years. I chose to work in healthcare because I enjoy helping other people. Memory Care residents have always had a special place in my heart. I have always enjoyed the stories that residents tell about their lives. I also love interacting with the residents on a daily basis. The residents are my favorite thing about the community. Outside of work, I spend all of my time with my little family. My favorite food is Chinese, and my favorite quote is “It can’t rain all the time” from the movie, The Crow.

My name is Haley Ballew, and I am the Activities Director. I have worked for ALG Senior for 9 years. I began my career with this company as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I have been an Activities Director since 2023. I was inspired to work in healthcare because my mother was a CNA throughout my childhood. I have also always wanted to help others. I love being able to spend quality time with the residents as we do different activities. I love making them laugh and brightening their day. My favorite part about working in this community is feeling like I have 40 grandparents. During my free time, I love spending time with my dogs.

I was inspired to work in this field because I love cooking and I love helping people. What I love most about working with residents is the conversation. I could sit for hours and talk with them about anything. My favorite part about this community is the people; I love the staff and our residents.
